'Game of Thrones': Letting Go of the Past

Peter Dinklage in Game of Thrones Season 5 Episode 5 Game of Thrones: Letting Go of the Past

[This is a review of Game of Thrones season 5, episode 5. There will be SPOILERS.]

There is a moment late in ‘Kill the Boy’ when Tyrion and Jorah are sailing through the ruins of Valyria and they are witness to Drogon soaring overhead. There is a look on Tyrion’s face that is surprisingly not one of terror, but something else, something more akin to pure wonder at the spectacle flapping its giant leathery wings above him. Tyrion knows he is seeing something special that goes far beyond confirming Daenerys is indeed the mother of dragons. He is seeing the past and the future converge in the sky, in the form ...

Ryan Reynolds Suits Up As Deadpool For Mother's Day

Deadpool Art Uzi and Swords 1200x600 Ryan Reynolds Suits Up As Deadpool For Mothers Day

We had the chance earlier this week to visit the Vancouver set of Deadpool, where the first non-Wolverine X-Men spinoff is more than halfway through production. We won’t be able to share details until we near the film’s theatrical release but while there we were told something special is coming on Mother’s Day.

As it turns out, Ryan Reynolds suited up in Wade Wilson’s iconic red and black mercenary gear for a Deadpool-themed Mother’s Day greeting and the star shared it via social media in appropriate Deadpool style, with an R-rated caption to go with it. Some would say it’s perfect.

Adding to official costume images, behind-the-scenes photos of supporting characters and the antihero himself (on a toilet), all shared via Twitter, ...

'Penny Dreadful': Is This What It Is To Go Mad?

Timothy Dalton and Helen McCrory in Penny Dreadful Season 2 Episode 2 Penny Dreadful: Is This What It Is To Go Mad?

[This is a review of Penny Dreadful season 2, episode 2. There will be SPOILERS.]

After last week’s premiere introduced audiences to the unseen side of Madame Kali/Evelyn Poole, and the torment she and her curly-haired coven of witches were hell bent on putting the seriously sleep-deprived Vanessa Ives through, Penny Dreadful has its characters (perhaps fool heartedly) on the prowl for some kind of peace. Well, everyone but Ethan, who pretty much gets to spend his time hanging around and flirting with the wonderful Ferdinand Lyle, as the two take from the British Museum a collection of eleventh century relics intended to give ...

'Blindspot' & 'The Player' Trailers Reveal NBC's Action-Packed New LIneup

Monday marks the start of upfront week in New York City, the time of the year when all the major broadcast networks (NBC, FOX, ABC, CBS and The CW) gather together to present their fall TV schedules to advertisers. This means that going into the week, most of the previous season’s shows will have already been renewed or cancelled (like NBC’s Constantine), paving the way for next season’s new crop of dramas and comedies.

NBC kicks off the event tomorrow at 11am eastern, and as such, they’ve already released their fall 2015 schedule, along with stills, artwork and trailers for their upcoming series. Fan-favorites Chicago Fire, Law & Order: SVU, Chicago P.D., The Blacklist and Grimm are staying put on their current air nights, but NBC will also premiere four new dramas this fall.

Stephen Amell on 'Arrow' Crossing Over with Non-CW Shows

Arrow Constantine and The Flash Stephen Amell on Arrow Crossing Over with Non CW Shows

While Marvel has relied upon the television side of its interconnected cinematic universe to introduce and expand areas that the blockbuster event films have yet to – such as Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. introducing the Inhumans mythology and Daredevil carving out a pocket for the street-level heroes – DC and Warner Bros. have taken a decidedly different approach to their TV properties.

The DCMU continuity established by Man of Steel continues with 2016’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, leading to an eventual Justice League big screen team-up with characters like The Flash, who will be played by Ezra Miller in the film even as Grant Gustin has been portraying the speedster on The CW’s hit TV series. This has led to some confusion, ...

'Heroes Reborn' First Images Released; Will Air Thursdays this Fall

Heroes Reborn Images Airing Thursdays on NBC Heroes Reborn First Images Released; Will Air Thursdays this Fall

Prior to the onslaught of superhero movies and television shows of recent years, NBC’s Heroes was a network drama chronicling the life of people with super powers. However, the show, created by Tim Kring, decreased in quality over the course of its four seasons, causing many fans to stop watching. Despite the drop in popularity of Heroes, Kring and NBC are bringing the show back in the form of the miniseries, Heroes Reborn.

Since the miniseries was announced more than  year ago, very little about the relaunched show has been released aside from a short promo that aired during this year’s Super Bowl. Now, new images of three key characters as well as a synopsis for ...

Weekend Box Office Wrap-up: May 10, 2015

Avengers Age Ultron Hulkbuster Weekend Box Office Wrap up: May 10, 2015

Earth’s Mightiest couldn’t be topped at the box office this weekend, taking advantage of a weak group of competitors.

In the top spot again is Avengers: Age of Ultron, which grossed $77.2 million in its second weekend. That is the second-highest second weekend intake of all-time, trailing only its predecessor ($103.1 million). Despite having not much to go against, the latest outing for Marvel’s super team took a 59.6 percent dive from its massive debut, though such decreases are expected for “event” films like this. Ultron is already the second highest-grossing movie of the year so far with $312.5 million domestically and it’s only a matter of time when it overtakes the top spot. Internationally, the sequel is at $874.9 million, so this is ...

'Incredibles 2′ Is Brad Bird's Next Movie; Bird Talks Directing 'Star Wars'

Brad Bird directing Incredibles 2 Incredibles 2 Is Brad Birds Next Movie; Bird Talks Directing Star Wars

Of all the sequels Pixar has in development, the one that has generated the most positive reaction is arguably The Incredibles 2. Ever since Brad Bird’s emotional tale of a superhero family coming together earned widespread acclaim in 2004, moviegoers have been clamoring for a sequel. After years of waiting and hoping, that follow-up is finally coming through the pipeline, with Bird currently writing the movie’s script.

And though Bird has been attached to the project from the beginning, his capacity thus far has been limited to “writer” with no mention of him directing (as was the case with the original). While it’s still not “officially” confirmed he’ll be back at the helm, Bird ...

'Orphan Black': The Family That Prays Together

Orphan Black Newer Elements 4 Orphan Black: The Family That Prays Together

[This is a review of Orphan Black season 3, episode 4. There may be SPOILERS.]

In the wake of last week’s revelation that the Castor and Leda clones are siblings – biologically speaking – “Newer Elements of Our Defense” sees a bit of bonding going on between brothers and sisters. Chiefly this takes place between Sarah and Mark, the latter of whom is not dead but merely has a few more holes than he’d usually prefer. Nothing says family time like digging a bullet out of your brother’s thigh.

The familial connection between the clones might be what it takes to make the Castor storyline really worthwhile, since up until this point the Castor clones have felt largely interchangeable (so much ...
